This photo was taken on Rhossili Bay Beach, Swansea BayTime
I took this photo early September just before the Dark nights come in early. It was shot at around 7.45pm minutes before lights out. We sat waiting and watching the tide go out so we could get close enough to get some detail before it got too dark.Lighting
For me this image works well in Black and White as you can get some nice shadows and detail on the “crocodiles teeth”, the clouds helped cast out the sun and make the reflections interesting.Equipment
Shot on my Sony SLT-A77V with the 16mm-70mm F2.8 Kit LensInspiration
Once a year me and a good friend pick an area of the UK that we would like to visit. We do a little research on the area first and plot all the interesting points we want to visit. We then spend a few hours planning the whole trip taking into account weather and tide forecasts, from this we can plan the most interesting points with a Sunrise or Sunset. With planning the trip correctly, we can get the most out of our time and shots.Editing
I didn’t need to do much processing on this image; a slight tweak to the horizon, and converted to Black and White was at that I needed to do with Adobe Lightroom. In my camera bag
Before I make any journey I always plan what I’m going to need; Sometime travelling light if I’m going to be hiking or fully kitted out if there’s just a short walk. However, I always take my Lowepro Slingshot bag equipped with my Sony A77V with Kit Lens 16-70mm F2.8, Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 AT-X Pro DXII (My favourite lens), My Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG APO, Manfrotto MK394-PQ 394 Tripod, Spare battery and a bunch of Polarizer and ND Filters just in-case… Optional are my Sony Flash and my 50mm Prime LensFeedback
It doesn’t matter if you live within walking distance or travel miles and miles to your destination, my key advice is “Plan, Plan, Plan” this will help you get the most out of your trip and maximise your time. Also taking out the stress so you can enjoy and have fun!
